CHENNAI TO HOST 23RD ASIA MASTERS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025
The Masters Athletics Federation of India (MAFI) is proud to announce that India will host the prestigious 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championships 2025, scheduled from November 5 to 9, 2025, at the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai.
Masters Athletics is open to competitors aged 35 and above, grouped in five-year age brackets. The 2025 Championships will feature athletes from 30 Asian countries, with around 4,000 participants, underscoring the vision of World Masters Athletics to promote fitness through competition.
Originally scheduled in Indonesia, the event was reassigned to India in July 2025. With its modern sports infrastructure, and strong backing from the Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai emerged as the natural choice. This will be India’s third time hosting the Championships, following successful editions in 2000 and 2006 in Bengaluru.
“We approached Thiru. Udhayanidhi Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Youth Welfare & Sports Development, and he readily extended his full support, agreeing to serve as Chief Patron of the Organising Committee,” said David Premnath, Secretary General, MAFI.
Popular Tamil film actor Mr. Arya has been named Brand Ambassador of the Championships. Ms. C. Latha, former national champion and Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Athletics Association, will serve as Technical competition Director. Mr. Meghanatha Reddy, Member Secretary, SDAT, and Mr. Shenbagamoorthy M, Vice President of MAFI, have also pledged their support for the success of the Championships.
The event will also see the presence of Ms. Margrit Jung (Germany), President and Mr. Juan Ordonez (Mexico), Secretary of the World Masters Athletics, along with Mr. Viwat Vigrantanoros (Thailand), President and Mr. S. Sivapragasam (Malaysia), Secretary of the Asia Masters Athletics Association (AMA).
India, which secured 264 medals at the previous edition in the Philippines in 2023, is determined to surpass that tally on home soil by fielding its largest-ever contingent of 2,500 athletes this year.
“We thank Deputy CM Thiru. Udhayanidhi Stalin for his unwavering support, and Mr. Arya for joining us as Brand Ambassador. We are also grateful to the dedicated teams working tirelessly to deliver a memorable Championships,” added Mr. David Premnath.
Thanks & Regards,
