Chithiram Pesuthadi 2 Movie Review

Chithiram Pesuthadi 2 has nothing to do with the 2006 film that propelled its filmmaker, Mysskin to fame. Perhaps the title was selected to cash in on the popularity of Chithiram Pesuthadi, which is best remembered for initiating the ‘Yellow sari’ item-song culture in Tamil cinema. Google tells me that Chithiram Pesuthadi 2 was shot in 2013, when the old ₹500 notes were still legal. Actress Gayathrie was fresh from the success of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Radhika Apte was relatively new, and was testing waters in Tamil and Telugu industries, with regrettable films. This was around the same time when West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo (who plays a cameo in the film) was winning the hearts of Tamil fans after his impressive performance in that year’s

Sadasivam’s friend who ordered the execution. There is Durga (Radhika Apte), Sadasivam’s wife, who wants to kill him. What happens among them and who gets what is the climax.

Three cheers to Rajan Madhav. Though a complicated story, he manages to weave them well. Viddharth and Ashok deserve credit for getting their act right. The former is subtle while the latter is hyper. Radhika Apte chips in well. Gayathrie does a good act.

Chithiram Pesuthadi-2’s problem is its delayed release. Several films in the recent past have been done in this genre. All said, the movie can be watched for Rajan Madhav’s honest attempt.

The narration looks unclear and due to this, you tend to lose patience, which in turn makes the happenings in the film look uninteresting. The songs act as a speed breaker, hindering the screenplay. Rajan Madhav’s writing might have seemed good on paper, but it turns out to be mediocre when converted on the big screen. The musical score fails to captivate the audience and it doesn’t infuse any intensity to the viewers. Padmesh’s cinematography is a good asset that showcases the dark side of the city in the required tone and data-style. As said earlier, the editing lacks finesse.

Chithiram Pesuthadi 2 tries to tell something in a hyperlinked format, but that doesn’t serve its purpose with a flat and confusing screenplay.
