Launch of iBelieve – Women’s Second Career program is a breakthrough opportunity for women who want to resume their IT careers. This program is targeted at women who are serious about making a comeback and willing to invest in themselves. Women who join us will be re-skilled and upgraded on technical and business skills required for today’s work environment. 1. The future of work is changing and organizations are evolving to adapt with changing work place demands. Attracting and retaining talent strategies are also changing.
2. At HCL, we believe that a professional always remains a professional and a career break is just a phase. To stay relevant, every professional – whether on a sabbatical or not, needs to invest in reskilling themselves.
3. HCL understands that while pursuing a professional career one might be faced with difficult decisions. More often than not women find themselves making a choice between their career aspirations or managing other priorities in life. This leads many women to quit their professional career.
4. Globally, millions of employees including women take extended breaks or planned sabbatical from work for a variety of reasons – marriage, move to a different country, childbirth, health reasons amongst others. According to a study by the World Bank in collaboration with the National Sample Survey Organization, 20 million Indian women quit jobs between 2004-12. Around 65-70% of women who quit never return to work at all. A break cannot be and should not be a reason to put a stop on a qualified professionals’ career growth path.
5. Many tend to use the break period for investing time in their hobbies, undergoing courses and in life enriching experiences. All these experience add to an individual’s life skills. Hence I is wrong to negatively assess a career break for a qualified professional.
6. We believe that gender does not matter to perform any job. It is the capability and competence of individuals that matters. A techie is always a techie. Therefore taking a break from career does not impact the capability as long as the individual is ready to invest time for their training and re discover their potential.
