A sports drama starring Aadhi Pinisetty, Clap has been directly released on Sony LIV platform today. Let’s see how the movie is.
Vishnu (Aadhi Pinisetty), a running race champion, loses his leg in a road accident. He leads a dull life with his wife Mithra(Aakanksha Singh), who works in the IT department. One day, he gets to know about a state-level runner named Bhagyalakshmi (Krishna Kurup). Impressed with her, Vishnu approaches Bhagyalakshmi and gives her training for the Nationals. Meanwhile, the SAA President Venkatram (Nassar) creates a major hurdle for Vishnu. What happened between Venkatram and Vishnu? Did Bhagyalakshmi become the National champion? These answers will be known by watching the film.
Generally, sports dramas have similar backdrops and Clap is no exception. But, what makes the movie watchable is the way Vishnu overcomes his problems and makes Bhagyalakshmi win in finals. Aadhi performs well as an amputee athlete and Krishna Kurup also delivers a decent performance.
Nassar makes his mark again by giving his best. Munishkanth, Aakanksha Singh, Mime Gopi also act well. The director showcases the politics that take pace during the selections in a realistic way. The visuals and the music are impressive and they play a key role in elevating the film. Production values are also fine.
Though the movie has a good point, the slow narration becomes a hurdle to make it an engaging sports drama. The director should have made it better by writing a crisp screenplay with more twists and turns.
Also, when it comes to sports-based movies, viewers expect a few inspiring dialogues, songs and superb elevations. The movie lacks such elements. Aakanksha Singh’s role could have been better. Mime Gopi, Brahmaji and Rajsekhar Aningi fail to impress the audiences. The songs also are not up to the mark.
Technical Aspects:
The story and direction by Prithivi Adithya are just about okay. But a gripping drama and solid emotions would have made Clap an even more engaging sports drama. Ilaiyaraaja’s background score elevates a few scenes
Emotion, the basic quality of a sports drama, fails miserably to impress a “clap” audience due to a lack of depth. We can only be seen once on Sony Live as for acting of Adi.
