KGF Movie Review: Prashanth Neel’s KGF, which stars Yash in the lead, has become arguably the most spoken about Kannada film, which has been dubbed in Tamil, nationally. The expectations have been enormous. Does the team deliver? Yes, they do. The film has a fast-paced first half, which does seem a little long, but the second half and the climax set up the right premise for the second part of the film.

The screenplay is the most interesting part of the film. The non-linear pattern keeps the viewers engaged, with the growth of Rocky being shown in a steady fashion. While there are a fair share of scenes and dialogues that bring out the hoots and cheers from the masses, the makers have still maintained a clever storytelling pattern that assures one to also keep pace with the narrative. The film traverses from 1951 to 2018, while maintaining a sense of curiosity as each character is unveiled.

The cinematography isn’t out of the world in the Mumbai portions. But the portions in Kolar Gold Field are in total contrast to the Mumbai ones. We get transported to the land of Kolar, and become a part of the location.

The background score is decent enough to make it a good cinematic experience. However, few moments of silence could have certainly made it better. At 155 minutes, it could have been a bit crisp, but the third act of the film is pulsating enough to make us sit on the edge of the seats. If you blink, you miss. That is the pace with which the final 40 minutes progresses.

On the whole, KGF is the Kolar Gold Field… filled with pieces of gold here and there. The stage has been set for the second part with great expectations. With films like this, Kannada cinema has gone up one notch higher.
