Heart and Lungs transported from Coimbatore for Transplant at Fortis Malar in Chennai
· 21 year old student from Gujarat receives Heart and Lung from Coimbatore
· Organ was transferred from Chennai Airport to Fortis Malar in 12 minutes with the help of Green corridor
Chennai, 25th September 2017: A heart and a pair of lungs from KG Hospital, Coimbatore was transported to Chennai today for transplant to a patient at Fortis Malar Hospital in Adyar. The heart was transferred via flight to reach Chennai airport at 3:28 PM today. A green corridor was then created from Chennai airport to Fortis Malar and the organs reached the hospital in 12 minutes.
A potential organ alert was received by the team at Fortis Malar early in the morning today. A team of two harvesting doctors were sent to KG Hospital for assessment of the organ. Post preliminary assessment, the organ was harvested at 11:50 AM by Dr. Jagadeesh and Dr. Mohan.
The organ was harvested from a 40 year old male in Coimbatore who had met with a road accident and was declared brain dead. Upon the family’s consent the lungs and heart were allocated to Fortis Malar. The organ started at 1:50 PM from Coimbatore and reached the hospital by 3:40 PM. The recipient of the organ is a male student from Gujarat who was diagnosed with Eisenmenger’s syndrome.
