100th birthday celebrations of Bharat Ratna, Dr. M. G. Ramachandran
Dr. Palani G Periasamy, Chairman and Founder of PGP group of Companies had organized a special function in celebration of 100th birthday of Bharat Ratna, Dr. M. G. Ramachandran, the founder, leader of All Indian Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and ex-Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday the 17th January, 2017.
This unique event was held at The Grand Madras Ball Room of Hotel Le Royal Meridien, Chennai.
The invitees for the function are those who were associated with Dr. MGR in his illustrious career in the fields of Cinema, Politics and Govt. apart from very close family members.
Dr. Palanisamy was a very personal and close friend of Dr. MGR who had also played a great role in organizing medical treatment for Dr. MGR in USA when his health conditions become critical during 1984. Some of the important guests who attended the celebration were Dr. HV Hande, who served in the cabinet of Dr. MGR, Thiru. Thirunavukarasar, who was also a cabinet colleage and currently the President of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. Kavignyar Vairamuthu, Tamil Scholar Dr. Silamboli Chellappan, Actor Satyaraj, Actor Vijaya Kumar, Director Bharathi Raja, Director SP Muthuraman and Director Thangarbachan also addressed the audience.
Particularly, Dr. MGR’s family members including TMt Leelavathi (Daughter of Dr. MGR’s brother Mr. MG Chakrapani) who was the donor of kidney for MGR’s treatment were present.
Dr. Periasamy and other VIP’s honoured Dr. MGR by garlanding his portrait placed on the dais.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Periasamy narrated his memories about his friendship with Dr. MGR and his unique and exemplary qualities who valued friendship. He also mentioned about many incidents where Dr. MGR showed his love and affection to the people of Tamil Nadu and his acts of helping others.
He also praised his quality of giving respect to his cabinet colleagues and other politicians and his habit of consulting others before taking major decisions.
All the speakers said that it is very rare that a leader is remembered even after 30 years by millions of people and by celebrating the 100th birthday of Dr. MGR the people associated with Dr. MGR to could meet together and honour his memory . Dr. Hande highlighted the role of Dr. Periasamy in identifying the various medical specialists and organizing the treatment for Dr. MGR.
Kavignyar Vairamuthu emphasized that Dr. MGR’s love & humanity had given him a special place in the hearts of the millions.
The event ended with the sumptuous dinner hosted by Dr. Periasamy.
